Who Is Char Dalton?
A Mother of 3
A business attorney
An active volunteer
Proud member of the Naperville Community
I’m running for the school board because I believe in the value of public education, and believe that it is our civic duty to engage and contribute to the educational process that our children experience. I want to work with teachers, parents and the community to ensure Naperville 203 School District students receive the education, tools, environment, and culture of support that they need to grow and develop in their own individual and unique paths. I believe that getting a good education is often linked to success, and to doors opening in our professional lives. A good education also forms a fundamental compass of reason, and can instill a tremendous amount of confidence, self-esteem and pride in who we are; A healthy education should reinforce to our students that they all have inherent value and self-worth as human beings.
I believe a good education is a fundamental promise we must make, and keep, for our students.
We must also prepare our students for the future workforce they will enter, an ever-changing global economy, with competitive challenges and standards our students must be able to navigate. My education, background, and over ten years of experience as an in-house business attorney have helped to give me the tools to advocate on behalf of educators and our students and children.
Before I became an attorney, I worked in healthcare as a nurse aide, and spent years working with developmentally disabled. I continue to share a passion for working with the developmentally disabled and volunteer in the community in that regard. I am also an active volunteer in several programs in the Chicago-land area that serve underprivileged schools, including volunteering in elementary and high schools in various programs, including the Street Law program, the Lawyers in the Classroom Program, as well as serve as a mentor in the Chicago ACC Diversity Internship program for law students.
As a businessperson and attorney representing a global organization, I also understand the realities of working with a budget and prioritizing needs, and will ensure that Naperville 203 spends our taxpayer money wisely.
If elected, I’ll work on efforts to retain and attract highly qualified teachers, to support academic initiatives that prepare all children - including those with special needs or gifts, and to promote safety and wellness for our students including those to promote mental health awareness and drug resistance programs throughout the district.
I respectfully ask for your vote on April 2, 2019.
